I Know 'Em, You Know 'Em, Let's Talk About 'Em

In my line of work, I am consistently reminded that there are many different varieties of "Theater People".  Nowhere is this more apparent than at auditions, a time in which everyone tries to outdo the others to get a job, while simultaneously trying to psych each other out by talking about their own grand accomplishments.  I've written about the types of audience members you can expect to find in a theater, but haven't given the same attention to the other side of the curtain. So... without further ado, here is a list of the types of peeps you'll encounter at those inevitable opportunities to showcase your talents:

  1. The Prima Donna
Not necessarily a woman, but someone who's always talking about that show they just did, with that specific person... wait- you don't know Sarah? Well everyone at the theatre where I am now knows Sarah. She's such an angel! Yeah. That person.

  1. The Buddy
You meet when everyone is signing up, and hit it off. They're cool, super friendly... and then, they become buddies with everyone else in the damn room. They're getting all the info on everyone, and they're dangerous... that's all I'm sayin'.

  1. Silent But Deadly
They're quiet, unassuming, and usually spend their time in the holding room studying their pieces. You may try to make small talk, and they come off as cold. You don't expect much, anyway. Then, and the end of the session, their name is at the top of the recall list. Who would have thought?

  1. The Dancer
You can tell by the way they stand. And the way they nail those triple pirouettes. AND the way they walk. ANNND... Never mind. It just makes me feel like a three year old at a ballet recital.

  1. That One Guy Who Likes Girls
That one guy all the actresses surround like vultures. He's good looking, but even if he wasn't, no one really cares, because he's straight and loves theatre, and that's all that matters. Not to mention he can sing. Like, really really well. Ugh! Just marry me now.

Think you're one of these? Comment! Have another type to add! Comment!! Agree, disagree, DGAF? Comment!!!

Or not... I mean, whatever you want to do.
